A Basic Red Cross First Aid Course will be run September and October, up to 12 Scouts can take part. It will be run for
5 weeks see below dates and times.
The course is designed to be continually assessed and has a large amount of participation in incidents.

All are Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:00pm at Crowborough
Scout HQ in the Explorer room.

28th October assessment 2007 (however as this is during the School holidays an alternative time for assessment can be arranged)
A donation of £10 would be
appreciated from the attendees (not trainers), this will cover the cost of the
manual book which will be supplied and the cost of first aid consumables used
during the course.
The successfully completed course will also enable you to achieve the Emergency Aid
Stage 4 Scout Badge
Syllabus of Basic Red Cross First Aid Course
The programme focuses on key life-saving skills, provides an opportunity to learn the first aid response to the most common accidents and situations, and
is underpinned by relevant theory.
Duration
Approximately seven hours
Course outline
Respond to the needs of unconscious casualties
Includes placing an unconscious person in the recovery position.
Perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Participants will be taught how to lift the chin to open the airway, give effective rescue breaths and perform chest
compressions. All learners will be given the opportunity to practice their skills on a resuscitation manikin.
Choking
Participants will learn how to deal with mild and severe choking for adults.
Respond to the needs of casualties with major injuries
Participants will cover all of the following by observation:
- shock
- burns and scalds
- significant blood loss
- muscular and skeletal injury.
Assessment and certification
This course is continually assessed. Students receive a credit card sized certificate that is valid for three years.
