Southon Scouts is a very active Scout Troop. In addition to the exciting and varied programme on Friday there are weekend events almost every weekend. Southon is not spelt Southern Scouts as it was named after Frank Southon who started the second Crowborough Scout Troop in 1908, starting one year after Robert Baden-Powell started the Scout Movement. Southon Scouts are part of the 1st Crowborough Scout Group which is located in Ashdown District in East Sussex County in the south east of England in the UK. Young people from the age of 10 years to 13 years join Southon Troop. Scouting activities are for the youth of Crowborough society. They obtain badges on a very wide range of subjects. Our Southon Scouts rediscovered the Crowborough Caves recently while out on a scouts wide game in the darkness. The Southon Troop patrol names are a little eccentric Perilous Ptarmigans, Pesky Pigeons, Dead Parrots, Stormy Petrels, Upsidedown Penguins, Patriotic Pelicans and Wacky Woodpeckers. 1st Crowborough Scout Bands, Southon Rox, Massive Moose, The Speed Of Dark and
The Allies, are located at Crowborough Scout Headquarters. Crowborough Scout Group has a tradition of producing Scout Shows and Gang Shows over the past 80 years. The teenager Scouts go camping and there are loads of adventure doing adventurous activities. Sothon scouts have won the backwoods cooking competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Southon Scouts take part in the prestigious Overland competition which is reckoned to be the most challenging competition in the South East of England which they won in 2006. Southon Scouts take part in the Downsman competition which they won in 2005. 1st Crowborough Scout Group has close links with our Dutch Scout friends in Maarssen, near Utrecht, Holland, Netherlands. The Explorer Scouts unit that meets in Crowborough and has Explorers from all over Ashdown District is named Tullis after Julie Tullis the famous mountaineer from Crowborough. The cub packs are called Beacon Cub Scouts, Warren Cub Scouts and Forest Cub Scouts. Southon Scouts went to Martlets Jamboree in 2007. The other Scout Troops are called Chapman Troop and Hemens Troop. King Troop is named after John (Skip) King who has been active with the group for over 70 years. Scouting in Crowborough is located at the Crowborough Scout Headquarters in Whitehill Road, Crowborough, Winnie the Pooh territory. Crowborough is sometimes misspelt as Crowborogh or Crowborow or Crowboro and you will not find these spellings in a dictionary or wikipedia. Many people have said it is the best Crowborough website. Crowborough Caves on Ashdown Forest in the UK is one of the least visited potholes. The Crowborough weather can be found on the links on this page. Southon Scouts is no national lottery it is guaranteed to entertain and provide great holidays. So adolescents don't just sit there watching The Simpsons, Harry Potter, Disney Cartoons and Eastenders join Scouts and live life. All the web pages play mp3 music chosen to match the theme of each page, although you can disable the sounds by clicking the music box top left of the page. Many of the boys and girls in the Scout Group also go to Beacon School (Beacon Community College), Herne County Junior School, Jarvis Brook County Primary School, St. Mary's School and Sir Henry Fermor School.
